A prominent trend for improving fuel efficiency in automotive applications has been the movement of traditional belt drive actuators to become electronically controlled.  One of the earliest adopters of this technique was in powertrain cooling applications. For instance, in years past engine cooling fans were driven off of a “fan belt” which was in constant use while the engine was running. This particular application area continues to move forward with greater technical advances each year in terms of improving efficiency, ambient noise, and smaller footprints. Allegro has viewed this growth area as a significant application for product development.
