The Toxics Use Reduction (TUR) Team at Allegro MicroSystems' Worcester location actively seeks to achieve toxics use reduction in the chemicals that are used. Between 1990 and 2004, the team was able to achieve a Byproduct Reduction Index (BRI) of 64 and an Emission Reduction Index (ERI) of 88, as reported to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. This means that there was a reduction in the generation of byproduct for the reported chemicals of 64 percent, as well as a reduction in emissions of 88 percent when adjusted for production volume.
In June of 2004, the Allegro TUR Team was one of four teams in Massachusetts recognized by the Toxics Use reduction Institute for being Champions of Toxics Use reduction. Allegro was also second in the commonwealth of Massachusetts for byproduct reduction in 2000 versus 1999 among reporting companies.
In recognition of our commitment to the environment, Samsung's Mobile Division awarded its Eco-Partner Certificate in 2005 to Allegro for fulfilling Samsung's electronics standards for control of substances with environmental impacts, and for establishing a stable environmental quality control system.
Although Allegro's TUR Team is pleased with its accomplishments to date on toxics use reduction, there is always more that can be accomplished. The team will continue to work toward further reductions in our chemical usage.
