Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. Launches Improved Accuracy and Bandwidth Addition to Current Sensor Family

Simplify Manufacturing with a Small, Low-Cost, Isolated and Lead-Free Current Sensor ....

Worcester, MA — April 14, 2004 — Allegro Microsystems, Inc. announces the new ACS752 family of current sensors, a higher-bandwidth (50 kHz) and improved accuracy companion to its existing ACS750 family of current sensors. The devices provide 3 kV isolation and single +5 V supply operation while placing only 130 µW of resistance in the current path. 50 A and 100 A versions are available, rated for -20°C to 85°C operating temperature range. The lead-free, PC-mountable package is only 14x22x7 mm overall, and integrates the current path — no need to design your own magnetic circuit or thread your conductor through the device.

The bidirectional ACS752 sensors consist of a precision linear Hall IC optimized to an internal magnetic circuit to increase device sensitivity. The combination of a precisely controlled self-aligning assembly process (patents pending) and the factory programmed precision of the linear Hall sensor results in improved accuracy, very low thermal drift and high product uniformity.

The innovative electro-mechanical package provides a fully integrated current sensing solution. The package consists of a two-pin power lead frame that passes current through a ferrite core and past the sensing element of a three-lead Hall IC. It requires minimal effort to implement on a PC board in a high-volume production environment by means of soldering or welding.

This new current sensor is targeted to meet the needs of the industrial, consumer and telecommunications markets with end applications to include AC motor control, battery management, UPS and emergency lighting, welding equipment, power distribution, white goods, fitness equipment, and electric vehicles.

Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. is a supplier of advanced mixed-signal power semiconductors and Hall-effect sensors targeted toward the automotive, communications, computer/office automation, consumer and industrial markets. It maintains a leadership position in the integrated magnetic sensor and integrated motor driver product segments. With over 2,000 employees, Allegro is headquartered in Worcester, MA.
