Worcester, MA, Nov. 19, 2004 Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. announces the new ACS754/5 family of current sensor ICs, an improved accuracy and extended range version of our existing ACS752 family. These devices provide a smaller, lower cost alternative to toroid-based sensor ICs, and offer economical and precise current sensing in industrial, consumer, communications and automotive systems. The ACS754 devices are bi-directional sensor ICs, while the ACS755 versions offer single-direction sensing with approximately twice the resolution of the bi-directional ACS754s.
The devices provide 3kV isolation and single voltage supply operation while placing only 100 µOhms of resistance in the current path. 50A, 100A, 130A, 150A and 200A versions are available in both industrial and automotive temperature ranges. The lead-free, PC-mountable package is only 14x22x7mm overall, and integrates the current path - no need to design your own magnetic circuit or thread your conductor through the device in manufacturing.
The sensor ICs consist of a precision linear Hall IC optimized to an internal magnetic circuit to increase device sensitivity. The combination of a precisely controlled self-aligning assembly process (patents pending) and the factory-programmed precision of the linear Hall-effect sensor ICs results in high-level performance and product uniformity. The power lead frames are designed for extremely low power loss and are electrically isolated from the sensor signal leads. This isolation allows the ACS754/5 sensor ICs to be used in applications requiring electrical isolation without the addition of other isolating components. The worst-case accuracy over the devices' whole measurement and temperature ranges is 5 to 6% (depending on version) in industrial applications and 7 to 10% in extended temperature automotive applications. Accuracy at 25°C is better than 1%.
This new current sensor IC is targeted to meet the needs of the industrial, consumer, communications and automotive markets with end applications to include automotive EPS, motor control, battery management, UPS and emergency lighting, welding equipment, power distribution, white goods, fitness equipment, industrial heaters, spa controllers and electric vehicles.
