Q1: What package options are offered for the A6275?
The A6275EA and A6275SA are packaged in a 16-pin DIP. The A6275ELW and A6275SLW are packaged in a 16-pin SOIC.
Q2: Do I need any external components?
Yes. an external resistor sets the load current per bit and establishes the output current for all 8 sink drivers.
Q3: Does the A6275 come with any type of protection circuitry?
Yes. Under-voltage lockout (UVLO)
Q4: Can the output current be controlled with an external voltage?
Yes. Although an external resistor is still required, output current can be controlled with an external voltage. For more details on how this is done, please refer to the Constant Current LED Drivers application note (AN29503.1, PDF).
Q5: What if I want to multiplex and need source drivers as well as sink drivers?
Multiplexing is possible using a device such as Allegro's UCN5891 8-bit source driver. Please refer to the Constant Current LED Drivers application note (AN29503.1, PDF).
Q6: Is a resistor required in series with the LEDs?
No, but depending on the application, a series resistor may be needed if it is necessary to minimize the voltage drop across the transistor in order to minimize device power dissipation.
Q7: What if I need more than 8 bits?
No problem. This device is designed to be cascaded with additional A6275s by connecting the SERIAL DATA OUT pin to the SERIAL DATA IN pin of the next device. The other option is to use Allegro's A6276, which is a 16-bit version of the A6275.
Q8: Is there an applications note for the A6275?
Yes. Constant Current LED Drivers application note (AN29503.1, PDF).
Q9: What is the power rating requirement for REXT?
REXT should be rated for at least 1/8th watt.
Q10: Is the A6275EA a drop-in replacement for the Toshiba TB62705CP
Yes. Both devices are functionally equivalent and come in 16-pin DIP packages that have identical pinouts.
Q11: Is the A6275ELW a drop-in replacement for the Toshiba TB62705CF?
No. Although both devices are functional equivalents and have identical pinouts, the Toshiba TD62705CF is not in a JEDEC-standard SOIC package and therefore has a slightly different footprint.
